How To Avoid The Three Most Common Mistakes With SkinCare

Our skin is our largest organ.  It’s living and breathing and it protects your internal organs from the invasive and dangerous elements of life: viruses, bacteria, pollutants, and harsh weather, including the sun.

Many people don’t understand or fully appreciate the role that our skin plays on our overall health and well being.  Most of us focus on the end result, which is how our skin looks, rather than the process of reaching and maintaining that appearance through healthy choices.  This results in the most commonly made mistakes with skin care:

Not realizing that what you put into your body shows on the outside.
By not maintaining a well-balanced diet of foods and liquids rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins, and by poisoning your system with too many harmful substances such as an overabundance of alcohol or cigarettes, you harm your skin.

Too much alcohol can dehydrate your skin and cigarettes deprive it of the oxygen it requires.  Supplement your diet with Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) like cod-liver oil or borage, flax & coconut if you’re vegan.  And PLEASE drink plenty of water!  Add a slice of orange or sprig of mint to spruce up your water drinking experience.

Neglecting your skin when it's young.

The sun and the wind can damage your skin. This damage might not show when you're young, but just like your favorite leather coat, the wrinkles and cracking will show with age. If you treat your leather coat with moisturizers when it's new and continue treating it throughout the years, you can wear that jacket for a very long time without it showing its age.

The same goes for your skin. Moisturize it before it shows signs of needing the moisture and it will stay healthier as it ages.  Use a heavier crème at night to re-hydrate your skin & assist with repairing cellular degeneration.

Using skin care products that promise instant results.

Most skin products that are manufactured and full of 'instant improvement' guarantees are just full of chemicals and broken promises. And, if you listen carefully most of their marketing campaigns state that they will give you healthy-looking skin, which is a far cry from having skin that's healthy. Use all-natural creams and cleansers when taking care of your skin. Avoid ingredients like mineral oil, alcohol, lanolin & parabens (preservatives).

Anti-Aging Skin Care

The aging of your skin may be inevitable. But why rush it? There are ways to slow down sagging and wrinkles. Using skin creams and treatments may already be a part of your daily grooming regimen. However, topical creams cannot be expected to work alone for full efficacy. The best way to start your anti-aging effort is on the inside.

First of all, are you drinking enough water? There are varying opinions about how much water an individual actually needs for good health, but the general consensus remains that you probably aren't drinking enough. If you're thirsty, your skin is thirsty too -- which means dryness and wrinkles. Hydrate your skin by drinking water regularly.

Drink water . . . but avoid alcohol and soft drinks. The contents of these beverages -- alcohol and caffeine -- dehydrate skin, wreaking havoc on its structure. An acceptable alternative to water is green tea, which is low in caffeine (but enough for a pick-me-up). Green tea, as you probably already know, is loaded with antioxidants that destroy free radicals, which cause aging.

A multivitamin is always a good idea, but our bodies most easily absorb nutrients from food. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet. In addition to vitamins and minerals, you're fortifying your body with more antioxidants. Blueberries are one of nature's “super foods,” having one of the highest antioxidant values.

Exercise! Exercise helps keep us from aging by keeping weight down, working the heart, toning muscles, and getting the blood flowing (to the skin!). People who exercise look younger and feel younger. It's a most beneficial habit to get into.

People who look younger than their age repeatedly reveal one vital secret: getting enough sleep. If you aren't, find ways to work it in. Instead of sitting up in front of the television, turn it off at a reasonable time and take a book to bed. This quiet practice can lead to an easier time getting to sleep -- sometimes the colors and movement of the television keep our brains working even after we've begun to relax.

You may feel that you don't have the time to take care of your skin, but keep in mind: by the time you do “have time,” it will be too late. The time to protect your skin is now! Years later, you'll be thanking yourself for it -- and not only will you look younger, you'll feel younger too.

Hello fellow friends from around the world, welcome.

Mineral Makeup vs. Traditional Makeup

Mineral makeup is entirely more popular today compared to how it was 20 to 30 years ago.  It has become increasingly known in department stores, much seen in television and magazines.  But with all this hype about mineral makeup, how are they different from the conventional makeup that we have used before.

Under the Microscope

If we would be talking about the contents of the mineral and conventional makeup, under the microscope, there would not be much difference.  Mineral makeup would use titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide, silk mica and hydrated silica.  These minerals are also, surprisingly,  present in traditional makeup.

What are the effects of these elements?

Titanium oxide is mainly a skin protector against harmful rays from the sun.   Zinc oxide works along with titanium dioxide in protecting the skin against the harmful ultraviolet rays.

Iron oxide are present in mineral foundations, they are originally in red, orange and yellow colors.  Meanwhile, silk mica and hydrated silica reduce the reaction of the minerals when they come in contact with the skin.  Some mineral makeup have vitamins and other minerals.  Whenever, you are using a new make-up, whether it is mineral or traditional, be conscious of its components.  There are instances that these compounds can provoke and allergic reaction when in contact with the skin.

But cases of women who experienced allergic reaction to mineral makeup is not as many as those who have allergies with traditional makeup.  There are also things missing in mineral makeup,  they are chemicals, preservatives, talc and other fillers.  These chemical components often trigger other people’s allergy.

Traditional powders tend to enhance the face’s wrinkles.  But with mineral makeup, the fine lines were removed, giving the face a healthy glow.  This health glow comes from the vitamins and antioxidants which hydrate the skin and would conceal the wrinkles naturally.

Above the surface

What’s good about mineral makeup is that it can be used on all the types of skin.  But even if it can be used on different skin types, it is still important to identify what colors are suitable and at the same time the right formulation.  But still, traditional makeup also serves that purpose.  You just have to be conscious with the makeup that you choose, since there can be additives bad for your skin.

Mineral makeup are often considered more “breathy” for the skin.  Traditional make-up tends to block or clog the pores.  That is why some customers have a feeling of  something heavy on their faces when they used the traditional makeup.  Since mineral makeup is natural, there is natural feel to it when it is applied to the skin.

Another good news for allergic people, is that it is hypoallergenic.  Mineral makeup do not have bismuth oxychloride in their component making your skin free form chemical allergic reactions.

There are some skin treatments which would not allow you to use cosmetics afterwards.  But with mineral makeup, the minerals serve as coolant to the skin and even encourage the skin to heal faster.  While some mineral makeup users find that they can even sleep through the night with their make-up on, since it gets to last longer than traditional makeup and at the same time, it’s less allergic.

There are some who chose to use mineral makeup since it is more cost effective.  Since, with mineral makeup you use less makeup with the same results.
