Jessica Alba and Her Secret Tatoos

Jessica Alba’s is one famous personality whose celebrity beauty secrets are among the most sought after these days. This stunning actress has a figure to die for and matches it with loads of attitude. One of the famous and distinguishing features of Jessica Alba is her ability to stand out from the crowd. Take for example the number of tattoos that she has on different parts of her body. The tattoos have been chosen carefully and not of the run of the mill variety.

She has one Sanskrit symbol ‘padma’ tattooed on her wrist. This symbol actually denotes the lotus flower. In Hinduism, the lotus flower is considered the symbol of the highest spiritual development. The lotus flower according to the Hindu religion is the symbol of purity for although the plant has its roots in muddy lakes or ponds; it still manages to rise above it and flower. Jessica Alba is known to be particularly inclined towards most things spiritual and this would perhaps explain her fondness for the particular symbol tattooed on her wrist.

One of the biggest turn offs about being a celebrity lies in being chased by the tabloids all the time. They are forever on the lookout for juicy copies to sell their ware. Celebrity tattoos have in recent times become a constant source of news to the paparazzi. Almost every celebrity worth his or her name is not averse to flaunting the latest tattoos. Jessica Alba is among the most sought after names when it comes to celebrity tattoos.

Jessica Alba, apart from the tattoo on her wrist has one on the back of her neck. The tattoo which is actually a design of a daisy along with a ladybug is has caught the attention of people wherever she goes. In fact it is so popular that her neck has now become a place that is among the most photographed these days.

Jessica Alba also has a tattoo of a bow on her lower back which is another area of the body where most of the celebrities these days seem to have tattoos. Think of Angelina Jolie, another star who loves her tatoos. Another interesting thing about all of Jessica Alba’s tattoos is that although they are present on the most noticeable parts of the body, they would hardly get noticed in the first glance. In fact you will need to take a closer look at her in order to locate all the tattoos that she has. With a little bit of imagination, you too can try out the celebrity beauty secrets of Jessica Alba and make heads turn.

Plastic Surgery Plans for Nicole Kidman

People have always been fascinated about celebrities in general and celebrity beauty secrets in particular. Nicole Kidman is one celebrity who has caught the fancy of millions of fans worldwide, both with her acting skills as well as with her doll like cute looks. Her porcelain skin and figure have fascinated fans around the world. Cosmetic surgery in the form of lip augmentation and rhinoplasty is believed to the secret behind Nicole Kidman’s ever youthful looks. It's another weapon in the anti-aging battle. She is also believed to use Botox injections regularly in order to keep her skin wrinkle free.

Nicole Kidman’s tryst with plastic surgery started when early on in her career she had a nose job done. There are many who believe that her frequent use of Botox injections has led to her rather frigid and expressionless look in public appearances. There are many who also point out to her excessively arched eyebrow, which is known to be caused by excess use of Botox injections.

There is also speculation that Nicole Kidman may have gone under the surgeon’s knife once again in order to get a breast augmentation done. Her recent, somewhat bustier appearances have led to this speculation. The rumors about her breast augmentation started doing the rounds after the 2007 Oscars. She had earlier showed a rather flat chest during her past red carpet appearances. During the 2007 Oscars though, she appeared bustier indicating a possible breast augmentation procedure.

There is also intense speculation that Nicole Kidman is a great fan of lip injections. There have been many times when her lips have looked rather puffier and much larger than what their normal size. The 2007 Oscars was one such occasion when her lips large and puffed up.

However even her worst critics cannot but admire her ability to mix plastic surgery and glamour in the most effective manner possible. She has been looking great in recent times winning the antiaging war. In fact the press has been going gaga over her recent wrinkle-free sight. The tabloids have gone to the extent of even calling her a ‘living doll’. The 40 plus actress looks years younger than her actual age these days and it is something that cannot be denied.

Considering her real age, there are many things such as not having lipstick lines around her mouth, wrinkles on her forehead and crow’s feet around her eyes, is something that defies the very laws of the nature. While a disciplined lifestyle with plenty of exercise and a well-planned diet, along with good genes can give you great looks, there are still certain limitations as to how long such good looks would last. Nicole Kidman is a classic example of celebrity beauty, which is a result of lots of hard work with some visits to the plastic surgeon thrown in good measure.

What is She Wearing?

Another way the female body image is portrayed through the media is by fashion. Fashion and a women body are greatly interconnected. Women are driven to look beautiful and be fashionable. However society quickly judges a woman when she is not “correctly” dressed. This usually means that she is wearing something daring or extremely unique. Due to this according to society, she does not have taste, style and is not beautiful and unappealing. Therefore woman especially celebrities are self-consciousness about what they wear. They are quickly judged upon demonized for their choice of clothing. Gossip and fashion magazines quickly judge or compliment celebrities fashion. For example in US Weekly they have listed “2008’s Worst Dressed” and “Best Dressed in 2008”. In Vogue magazines they have listed “Ten Best Dressed” and the list of examples can go on and on.

The What is she wearing? craze has even reached the White House. Since the election of Barack Obama, Michelle Obama has been under the spotlight. Her fashion options have been under scrutiny from the media especially from fashion and gossip magazines. Every time she chooses an outfit she is on the tabloids. For now, she has received positive comments on her choice of fashion and has been compared to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for being a fashion setter. Now everyone is speculating what she will wear for Barack Obama’s inauguration as president. I guess we will see.
Due to the high criticism from society women receive, they become more self-consciousness about what they wear and what others will think. They become more aware of their surroundings of what is in or out in the fashion industry. Nobody wants to look or be seen as ugly; therefore women conform to what society wants. For the most part women do not wear things that are daring and unique because of the high criticism which can have negative consequences.

Celebrity Makeup of Keira Knightley

Like all women, Keira Knightley feels insecure about her looks, even though she is one of the most gorgeous women on the silver screen. She still gets pimples and worries about this a lot. What are her celebrity beauty secrets we can share with you? We have some ideas of her celebrity make up routine, where you can achieve the same great look as Keira. You would also be surprised at some of the bargain basement prices she pays for some of her moisturizing creams.

For moisturizing her skin she uses Nivea, an inexpensive cream originally made in England. When she wants to present a glowing, slightly suntanned complexion, she is known to use Nivea Sun Touch to get that perfect glowing color, a great beauty tip for dull skin from one of the great beauties of the cinema. For an exfoliator, she uses Garnier Pure Deep Pore Wash to slough off the dead skin cells and get a deep down cleansing.

Keira’s makeup look of pale flawless skin comes from a good foundation with a semi matte finish that looks natural. You can experiment with Maybelline’s Wonder Finish foundation or True Match by L’Oreal Paris. Use an eye concealer before applying the foundation, use tiny dots from lid to brow. This helps eye makeup to last longer. Your eyebrows should not be over plucked but retain their natural arch. Pluck only your stray eyebrow hairs.

Blush with an English rose blush suitable for your skin color. To attain Keira’s look, use a cream blusher so you do not end up with a powdery finish. To get Keira’s, sexy pouting lips, keep your lips in good condition by moisturizing them all the time. Outline the lips with an lip pencil in the same tone as the gloss you are going to use. Use a neutral gloss or one with a hint of rose or beige tone to get that pouting look.

For Keira’s eye makeup which gives her eyes a smoky – smouldering look, Line the eyes first with a black kohl eye pencil, close to the eyelashes, both on the top and bottom eyelashes, close to the lash line. Choose an eyeshadow color in dark brown, deep plum or black charcoal. With a firm eye shadow brush, gently go over the kohl eye pencil line, blending and smudging the line. In the outer corner of the eyes, do a side ways “v” and remember to blend, blend, blend. Layer on some dark black mascara and viola! You get the same sexy hot look as Keira.

These are some of the amazing celebrity makeup tricks that Keira Knightley uses to get herself ready for the red carpet. Watch for this celebrity beauty in her next upcoming film.

Supermodel Chandra North Shares her Beauty Secrets

She's donned barely-there swimwear for Sports Illustrated. Lent her milky skin and Paul-Newman-blue eyes to the covers of three beauty books, two by makeup master Kevyn Aucoin and one by Bobbi Brown. And boasts sufficient fashion range to have appeared on magazine covers from cutting-edge (Harper's Bazaar, French and Italian Vogue) to girl-next-door (Lucky).

And that's not even counting the countless designer runways she's walked or ad campaigns she's scored, including Valentino, Missoni, Sonia Rykiel, Vivienne Westwood and Versace.

Yet thirtysomething Chandra North isn't really that different from the unassuming punk-music-loving teenager we met in the early 1980s, when The Dallas Morning News' Fashion!Dallas booked the Highland Park High School student for her very first photo shoot.

The supermodel, who hit her stride in the early '90s during the reign of the Naomi-Christy-Linda troika, recently moved from her longtime home in upstate New York back to Dallas with her husband, Daniel Blaylock, and 8-year-old son, Hayden, to live near family and escape brutal winters. We caught up with her at Starbucks in Highland Park Village, not far from where she now lives, to discuss beauty, fitness, fashion and her life as a supermodel.

What's your current makeup routine?

I'm terrible with foundation, so I use a tinted moisturizer instead. I hate powder. If I'm good, I do a little eye makeup.

I'm trying to grow my brows back. They used to pluck them a lot for shoots, especially during the grunge era. I wish they were as thick as they used to be. I just tweeze the strays now.

How do you take care of your skin?

I love a good facial. The last place I went was Kate Somerville in LA, but I need to find a place here. Billy B, this well-known makeup artist, told me about a celebrity client of his who has great skin and is in her late '40s and goes to Kate for facials. So I checked out her products. I love the ExfoliKate treatment.

Are you a product junkie?

I have a drawer full of products, and I just rotate things so I don't get bored.

What's your fitness routine?

I work out with a trainer a couple times a week; it's sort of a kick-boxing routine. I also walk my dogs a lot. I love Pilates. I was a dancer when I was younger, so I relate to Pilates.

Do you diet?

I try to be good, though I'll have a piece of birthday cake. Dark chocolate is my weakness. I love coffee and tea; I try to drink more green tea. I try not to eat at night and eat less sugar, preservative-free things. I like a steak now and then. Fish. Barbecue. I love Joe T. Garcia's.

How do you feel about plastic surgery?

I say whatever makes you feel good. Do a little self-inventory. I think there are people who have had amazing work done. Anything too extreme, anything that makes you not look like yourself is too much. Subtlety is important. I think it's good to go the noninvasive route first.

How often do you work now, and what agencies manage your bookings?

I'm somewhat selective. It varies every month, but I try not to be gone more than a few times a month. It's nice that I can almost be a full-time mom. I'm with One Management in New York, Marilyn Agency in Paris, Storm Model Management in London and the Kim Dawson Agency here.

Food and Women

The media as discussed has and is very powerful over women and their body perception. The media has its way of conveying messages and having the audience believe in them. An example of this is food. Food obviously has a strong connection to body since it is the main factor in determining ones weight. The media has had its own way of framing food either it is good or very bad. What it is predominately seen in the media is food being used as a sex object or as a means to achieve the fabulous skinny body everybody dreams of. Magazines and commercial advertisements have been seen to use food as a sex object. Many times food advertisements include women and target men. The women are usually sexy and provocative while using that specific food item. This confirms many stereotypes; women are seen as objects by men, women do not eat men do, and women are seductive therefore they are able to sell food much easier. As seen in the picture above the woman is covered in rose pedals which have nothing to do with the advertised yogurt.

Diets in the media also impact women negatively. In order to sell their products many dieting companies use the before and after picture or testimony. Therefore women should be able to relate to their situation and buy the diet product in order to look like their after image. Diet products vary from pills, drinks, meals, meal points, and many more. All of the companies state that they are the best and that they actually give you results right away. Due to this many women receive mixed emotions about food and their body image. On one side they can use food as a sex object and to be seductive but yet on the other side it is the means to get the beautiful body. Therefore many women do not have good eating habits which affect their health due to the mixed messages the media conveys.

At the forefront now are actresses like Jane Fonda and Sally Field who are highlighting the fact that over fifty can look good. To that end, there is a new batch of celebrity beauty secrets that are geared to helping the older woman look great in her golden years.

Confidence

It seems that one of the critical elements that makes up these celebrity beauty secrets has to do with aptitude. Although there is a certain element that states a woman over fifty needs to be more aware of what her makeup can do to hide some of the tell tale signs of aging, most of the experts agree that how an older woman carries herself is almost as important. They say that the best thing a woman over fifty can do for herself is remember that she's still beautiful on the inside and out. When they remember that, their appearance projects an air of confidence that is attractive.

Cleansing Milk
Celebrity Beauty Secrets - Sally Field
One of the other beauty tips and secrets that keeps the older Hollywood legends looking great has to do with looking their skin. Remember that as you grow older your skin tends to get dry and that's something you need to watch out for if you want to maintain a youthful appearance. Again, celebrity's beauty secrets suggest that you don’t use soap on your face at this age. They feel that good cleansing milk will do a better job and they also stress that you don’t wash with either very hot or very cold water. Some of the celebrity antiaging beauty tips and secrets that are practiced by these older celebrities have a strong emphasis on common sense.

Vaseline

For skin care tips: It's important to wash with tap water as well and Vaseline can be rubbed into the skin at bath time to combat the wrinkles that are often associated with aging. Watch out for extremely hot or cold weather and use a mixture of egg yolk and almond oil here to combat the ravages that this weather can bring on. To keep your skin looking good for as long as possible, it's suggested that you do this two to three times a week.

These are just two of the inexpensive celebrity beauty secrets you can use yourself to develop your own style of beauty without an large cash payout for your beauty routine.

Digital Retouching

This is another video done by Dove and its campaign on beauty awareness. The very short video conveys a big message. “Beauty has been greatly been distorted by the media”. The media has constructed their own definition of what a woman should be. Since the media is so powerful over many especially young women it creates a goal that is unattainable. Many young girls watch the media for advice. Advice on fashion, make up, boys, sex, and the list can go on. Instead of trusting their parents on these topics they rather take what they see as “reality”. Yet they are unaware that what they see is unreal which is what this Dove video is trying to say.

“I want to be Hannah Montana” is something that my seven year old sister repeatedly tells me. Even though I think Hannah Montana has no negative implications yet on my little sister’s body perception, she has been marketed to be seen as a real character that one day my sister can be like her. This is the way many images in the media are portrayed as. They attempt to make the images be attainable. Many magazines have on their cover “How to look like a celebrity”, “How to look as beautiful like them”, “Celebrities Beauty Secrets” and the list can go on. These are tips on how be or look like these celebrities. Clothing works in the same way just as much as other products. The media wants to close the gap between the images they advertise and the general population by advertising that one day they could be them. However as seen in this video that gap is never going to be closed because the images use digital retouching. The actual celebrity secret is not a product but technology that is making them look beautiful.

Model Behavior

The modeling industry is an important aspect affecting the female’s body image. One popular issue is the promotion of the perfect and skinny body. Modeling industries strive to only have the most attractive and skinny model. Therefore many female models attempt to fit their needs in order to be employed. This includes eating irregularly, unhealthy eating and snacking, and even starvation. In November 14, 2008 a Brazilian model, Ana Carolina Reston (picture below) passed away due to complications dealing with anorexia. Ana’s weight was only 88 pounds when she died. Her story and Luisel Ramo’s story, another model that passed away due to anorexia, have captivated much attention towards the modeling industry and eating disorders. Due to this the Madrid Fashion show required all the models who were lower than an 18 in body mass to be banned because they were classified as underweight by the World Health Organization. Another change was that any model that wants to be on a catwalk needs to have a medical certificate. Not only does this affect the models but all of the females who strive to be and look like them.

Another aspect of the modeling industry is the lack of “normal” size girls. According to the video Slim Hopes 95% of women do not have this model body. This means that young girls watching America’s Next Top Model, Janice Dickenson Modeling Agency, Make Me a Supermodel, and many other television shows and magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Glamour, InStyle, and many other magazines will strive to look like them but never will. However there are several modeling agencies that have embraced plus size models as a division. Designers and product companies have also embraced plus size models in their advertisement and promotion. The media is slowly but surely embracing plus size models. However the day when plus size models become as popular and respected by society and in the modeling industry just like the skinny models is yet to come. Which is also have affecting the day until women and girls become more comfortable with themselves.

A macrobiotic diet consists of organic vegetables, fruits, grains and natural sugars. . It is also high in phytoestrogens which is healthy for women when they are approaching their later age. Celebrity Beauty Secrets from Sophia Loren

Sophia Loren, the glamourous Italian actress who is over 71 years of age, when asked about her celebrity beauty secrets, revealed that her beauty came from “a love of life, spaghetti, and the odd bath in virgin olive oil.” No doubt, this actress from Italy eats healthy fresh Mediterranean foods and extra virgin olive oil which is organic and available in abundance in Italy. Her habit of bathing occasionally in olive oil is an anti-aging tradition dating back to her Roman ancestors. Olive oil is moisturizing and not only super good for the skin but also when ingested, it is great for your health. One of Sophia’s recent achievements is to be the oldest woman to model for the sexy Pirelli calendar.

In the days before botox and the many other cosmetic surgery options available for women today, Sophia Loren was told to have her nose fixed. But she refused believing that women must mold themselves to fit someone else’s ideal of beauty. She thinks this is unnatural. She didn’t get her nosed changes and she has survived and succeeded with great success and beauty even in her winter years.

She also goes to bed, habitually at 9:00 p.m. She said in an interview that she had “grown accustomed to going to bed at this time since childhood when I’d always get up at seven in the morning to study. Eventually I decided to keep the habit”. Whoever said we should get our beauty sleep was surely referring to Sophia as a prime example of this great habit.

This beautiful celebrity has written a book about her thoughts on beauty and has developed a very strong concept of what beauty means. She states that a woman must realise her own beauty for it to shine through, and adorn herself in beautiful jewellery. She concludes, "Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than being convinced that she is indeed beautiful. And only a jewel renders this state of mind more real”. "The hands are very important; they speak the language of the gestures - just like the mouth." "They should be coloured with jewels just like the mouth is coloured with lipstick. "Also a woman's dress must be like a metallic fence, it should serve its purpose without obstructing the view."

Her signature makeup look has always been a winged cat eye with usually nude color lipstick, lipstick shade dependent upon the occasion.

We can learn celebrity beauty secrets from the likes of the great beauties such as Sophia Loren. Some actresses are generous enough to share their beauty secrets with us mere mortals. So, pasta, attitude, olive oil and jewellery are on my next shopping list!

In the article “Born with a Birthmark and Nowhere to Hide; One Woman's Journey to Accepting the Purplish Stain on her Face” an undisclosed women tells her story about her identity while she was growing up with a birthmark extending from her chin, cheek, ear, and neck. Growing up at home she did not feel self-conscious about her birthmark not until she started school. Classmates would say rude and hurtful remarks towards her. Due to this she tried any way to hide her birthmark or make herself unknown in order to not draw any attention towards her birthmark. Once she started using make-up she found a new identity. “After years of loneliness and teasing, I couldn’t risk being vulnerable. So I became the master of my own blissful masquerade.” She acknowledged that the make-up was not only covering her birthmark but was covering a part of her. She was also self-conscious of this new identity because she knew that in some way she was tricking people into believing that she looked like this. When she was around boys or un-friendly make-up weather she felt uncomfortable. After being married and an adult she decided to expose her true identity. Even though she is older she still receives negative remarks but she was better able to deal with them.

“Yet I couldn’t contemplate being invisible again or, worse, ugly.” This is a common remark many girls and women share around the world. They would rather go to extremes in order to feel known and even better beautiful. Plastic surgery, Botox, Liposuction, excessive use of make-up and many other methods have been used by many girls in order to “shield” their ugliness. This article is an example of the effects many women face in order to fit societies ideal beauty. Mental and emotional damage are just as harmful as physical damage they face when they want to and strive to look beautiful. These methods used by these women at some point do not feel satisfying. Just like the woman in the article felt about make-up “Makeup had shielded me during adolescence, but now I felt as if half of me was trapped beneath a shellacked surface.” The make-up was a false identity which could not personally please her. At some point in her life her self-consciousness about her birthmark intervened with career opportunities. Her experience overall is an example of how powerful the beauty ideal is and how persistent it is over the entire society not just women. Just like the cable guy in the article expects women as much she expected herself to be the beautiful woman society expects.

Onslaught

The video that I decided to focus on was a dove video titled “Onslaught”. The video is part of a “The Campaign for Real Beauty” Dove launched in 2004. The campaign is raising awareness about the issues many face when speaking about beauty. The video shows different media exposures about beauty and the means to get the “right look” being almost shoved and pushed towards a little girl as she and her friends are going to school. The point of the video is to be aware that the media and its perception on beauty are constantly being taught to women especially young girls. Even though may argue that the media exposure might not have any impact on young girls it does cause them to have self-esteem issues about themselves.

The first time I saw the video I was shocked and amazed of how much we are shown about beauty in the media. We are constantly are bombarded with these “fake” images about these beautiful women without noticing. When they are all put together and shown as one we see that they are troubling and then we question what we see. Even though the video captivates many it has not been shown nationwide. Therefore many especially young girls accept what they see and do not question it at all. Why not question when not being informed? We live in a society where few make important decisions about what we see and what can be questioned. There are few corporations and networks that control the media industry therefore they decide what is going to be shown and what is not. Due to this power given to very few people and the increasing in money hungry individuals we continue to see anything being done for money in the media. That is showing your naked body nationwide or kissing two people at the same time. It is done for a reason because the media only wants captivating images in order to make profit. Therefore young “normal” everyday looking girls are not of importance towards the media industry because there is nothing captivating about them that would make money according to them. One way to stop this bombardment of false images of women is to change the media industry from its roots.

Facing the Media

Media-awareness.ca is an informative website which targets teachers, parents, and a young audience in being aware of the media. The website attempts to teach young people to use the tools and resources. The website offers lessons, a membership, a blog, educational games, and news in order to become an interactive way of learning the information the website offers. A section of this website focuses on the representation of women in the media. The articles dealing with women in the media show the reality and the effects the media imposes on young girls and women who are the audience. Media-awareness uncovers the truth behind the representations and the motives of women.

An article in this website titled “Media Coverage of Women and Women’s Issue” discusses the underrepresentation of women in the media and how women are portrayed in stereotypical roles. Some of these stereotypical roles include women being only housewife’s, only sexual items, and submissive towards society especially men. The article suggests that women in news usually cover stories that need compassion and sympathy such as accidents, natural disasters, and domestic violence. Women also tend to receive less air time or input less quotes compared to men in the news and other media coverage. Women in sports are also misrepresented in the media. Their last names are usually used to identify them and their beauty at some points becomes more important than their actual skills. For example Anna Kournikova received more attention for being beautiful than for her games and contributions to tennis. Another important point the article the makes is that women need to be beautiful in order to be better accepted by the audience. The article uses Greta Van Susteren as an example. In order to appear in FOX she had to do a surgical procedure in her face, cut her hair and use make up. This implies that beauty comes before brains.

The website includes other articles such as “Beauty and Body Image in the Media”, “Media and Girls”, “Sex and Relationships in the Media”, and other articles that are relevant and informative. They induce the readers to question the media and what they are exposed to. After reading the articles the audience becomes more critical about themselves, especially women, and what they let themselves believe or judge. This and many other websites are attempting to question the dominant and powerful media that has many hypnotized.

The Needle in The Media

Since the perfect body has been expected and promoted by the media. Than there is no surprise when the media promotes and demonstrates the means in order to receive this ideal body. Some of these means can be workout, healthy eating, dieting, and the most popular right now are cosmetic and plastic surgery shows. These shows not only target teenagers and young women but to all ages and female and male. Ranging from Fox to E! these shows have captivated the larger audience in converting ordinary women into goddesses or in making certain touches in order to become perfect. These shows include Dr. 90210, The Swan, Extreme Makeover, and Nip/Tuck. Reality shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians, The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency and many other shows allocate time for a cosmetic or plastic surgery clip or episode. In these shows cosmetic and plastic surgery is portrayed as an easy and fast way to achieve the beautiful look that society expects. The procedures are seen as an easy task to overcome and that there are no health implications. When the celebrities show the audience their own personal experience with cosmetic or plastic surgery the audience feels closer to the “celebrity look”. Even though this easy remedy to the ugly duckling is becoming more popular especially in the media there are shows that try to break this down. In the movie In a Cinderella Story the evil step-mother is portrayed as having cosmetic surgery in her face and throughout the movie her character demonstrates the implications of such procedures. However even though many poke fun at cosmetic or plastic surgery it is becoming more common in our society. According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 11.7 million cosmetic and nonsurgical procedures were performed in 2007 compared to only 2,099,173 in 1997. This trend continues to grow and the media’s input pushes this trend to a higher level without acknowledging its consequences.

The Best of all hairstyles

Welcome to the Best of All Hairstyles! In this site you will find the top 3 styles for each category listed above: short, medium, long, prom, updo, men's, wedding, extensions, bangs and layers. Follow the links on each page to see more great hairstyles for those categories.

There are many different hair styles available. The trick is to select the one that is right for you. Many different factors can affect the way your hair style looks on you. Weather or more specifically humidity, has a drastic effect on your hair style. If your hair is even slightly dry, the end result in humid weather is the dreaded frizz.

Another factor is your face shape. Hair styles can be used to frame your face, accentuate certain areas of your face or even camouflage areas that you don't like. You can easily determine your face shape by pulling all of your hair back of your face and standing in front of a mirror.

Trace an outline of your face in the mirror with something that is removable, like a bar of soap. Then stand back and look at the shape you have drawn.

Chances are that you have drawn a shape that is a combination of several different shapes. Like the combo of an oval and a heart. Now you can use this face shape information to find the best hair style.

Hottest Short Hair Styles

Short hair is much easier to take care of and you will definitely be using less hair care products.

Styling time is cut in half sometimes when going from a long style to a short one. It all depends on your hair texture and how well you hair behaves. A proper hair cut will go a long way to keeping the style looking great.

Selma Blair recently cut off her long hair for this short and sassy style. Add definition and pieciness to this style by applying a small amount of pomade to the ends of the hair using your fingertips. Be careful not to apply too much as this can cause the hair to look greasy.

The Truth of Being Overweight

A recent national news related to the female body image in the media was titled “The overweight debate: Healthy and heavy?” on MSNBC. The news article discusses other potential hazardous factors that can affect ones health other than being overweight. These are your age, family history, waist measurement, your regular fitness, cholesterol and inflammation. "Being overweight may not be associated with any risk of heart disease," says Robert Eckel, MD, a professor of medicine at the University of Colorado and past president of the American Heart Association. Even though some of these factors can correlate with being overweight they have an effect on anyone no matter their weight. Even if someone who is overweight lost a few pounds the other factors would continue to affect the individual and probably increase the potentials of contracting more diseases. This is another place were we begin to see the power of the media. If studies continue to come out with proof that being overweight due to their standards is healthy than why do many continue to strive for the “perfect” body? The media has been able to impose this “moral panic” towards society that being overweight is unhealthy because it is not beautiful and not the norm. In order to change this false perception the media has to popularize and impose that being heavy can also be healthy. Will that ever happen? It would take a lot of effort and time. The media is engraved with Hollywood and the music industry that have used body, sex, and beauty to make millions and nobody is bound to change something that is making money. Society must start educating and informing itself about health facts and issue than the media influences would not be so powerful. By taking the right measures and not those from the media one would become healthier and better fit.

The Image of Sexuality in Color

Minorities in this country have very little power and are very vulnerable to any social issue. When dealing with body image minorities are affected even more compared to whites in society. Women of color in the United States are pressured to fit their stereotypical roles. Many of their stereotypes have roots from their culture or country of origin. Other times these body image expectations are fabricated from people in power within society. This can be specifically applied to Latina and African American women, since their bodies represent more of the hourglass image. The hourglass figure is greatly desired, honored, and attractable to many. African American and Latina women are stereotyped as being seductive, very loud, and very sexual. They do this by wearing very little clothes, dancing seductive, giving attitude to anything, and using sex to their advantage. Their roles in movies, shows, and commercials are consistent which reaffirm this expectation to the viewers. For example in the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious, Eva Mendes uses her Latina flare and beauty to seduce the Cuban drug dealer into believing that she was not an undercover cop.

This is also an issue in music videos specifically from hip-hop and reggaeton artists. The women in their music videos dance very seductive, many times they are used as an object, they wear very little clothes, they are submissive, and follow and do whatever the artists pleases in the video. For example the music video “I’m Still in Love” from Sean Paul portrays the women as very seductive when they dance in their room, at the nightclub, and throughout the video.

All of these images send a very strong message to young girls in our society especially to women of color. Due to this women of color think that sex and their body will get them what they desire, which does not take into account their character and intelligence. Their style of dancing and fashion reflect the media’s influence. For example the fashion line from the rapper Nelly includes “apple bottom jeans” which emphasizes women’s butt. These jeans are seen everywhere especially on young African American women. These examples are just a few ways women of color are more pressured to look a certain way by society. Latina and African American women are not the only minorities that are affected however it is seen more often.

The Media Bug

One of the greatest components to the issue of body image in our society is the media. The media has become very popular in the United States. It has the power to change views, implement ideas, raise issues, and promote ideologies. The media comes in the form of television, magazines, internet, newspapers, books and films. Everyone in the United States encounters at least one of these mediums every day. The media surrounds us therefore there is no way to avoid it, especially if celebrities are in the media then it is harder to avoid due to their fame and popularity. Many young women look up at these celebrities as role models and follow their many examples. One of them is their physical attributes. In order to learn and discover every secret they have, young women turn to the media. Since the media is overly obsessed with celebrities, specifically the females, they want to cover everything about them. This includes their relationship status, their upcoming jobs, any awards received, gossip, and other useless information. Another aspect the media predominantly covers is the physical beauty of these celebrity women which includes their fashion, make-up, hair, and diet. “How Being Unpopular Helped Her get Famous” or “534 Ways to Look & Feel Fantastic For Fall” are ways to encourage women to feel like they can one day be beautiful and famous just like celebrities if they follow in their footsteps. The media brings these models and celebrities down to the “normal” women’s level and the majority do fall for the false advertisements due to the increase in sales. Even though these celebrities and models are real human beings, a good number of magazines and advertisements employ photo shopping tactics in order to make them the ultimate beauty. Other times the women on the advertisements are not who they seem to be, at some points as much as five different body parts are used to make one. For example as discussed in the video “Slim Hopes” featuring Jean Kilbourne, Julia Roberts body is not hers in the movie cover. The media has a great power in how females are shown to the public. It has the power to define what beautiful is and to correct flaws in the women portrayed. Therefore many times the beauty we see as a society is unreal. This can be devastating in many ways because the women who are caught by this media bug attempt to fit the media’s definition of beautiful when in reality it does not represent the entire population of women.

Introduction

Body image has been an issue throughout centuries many cultures have had their own way of perceiving what the perfect image is. For example the Chinese used foot-binding to have petite feet because they are preferred in their culture and in Victorian times they preferred bigger woman because they were better for child bearing. Women have had to strive for the perfect body for centuries in order to attract males and to fit their society’s expectations. The ideal perfect body has changed throughout history and throughout cultures. Even though the perfect body in every culture has been enforced and promoted the health effects were never considered or talked about. The issue of body image is significant because it has affected many women and girls both physically and mentally. Depression, anorexia, bulimia, self- esteem and other issues surround the problem of body image in our culture. These issues are never considered especially when the perfect body is promoted in the media and society. For example in modeling the women are expected to fit a certain size and if they do not than they do not receive the modeling job. The modeling agencies expect them to fit their criteria but they do not realize the effects on the models. I decided to examine this issue because it surrounds us and affects us everywhere. As a girl in society we are expected to meet a certain physical look to be beautiful. This pressure can come from family, friends, men, fashion, our culture, and most importantly the media. This issue effects me even more because I am a Latina society stereotypes us as being curvy, sexual, and seductive. By examining this issue we can be more informed about the implications and effects the “perfect body” has on women and culture and do something about it.

Simple tips for aging, allergies and general skin care

Someone rightly said,"skin is the reflection of your inner self".Skin is like a mirror of your health and habits. Many health problems are reflected by telltale signs on the skin. just a small example,If you have spoon shaped nails there is a high chance you are anemic(low haemoglobin in blood). There are many many others. My focus for this article is not to teach you medical terminology but to focus on easily preventable skin problems by using simple tips that you can use safely without medical supervision.

WRINKLES & LAUGH LINES
Starting with wrinkles and laugh lines. If you have wrinkles on forehead there can be multiple reasons for it.I will try to focus on aspects that you can take care of easily.
Sunlight-Excessive skin exposure can cause skin aging prematurely.Wear a suitable sunscreen when u are outdoors. If you have too many lines around your eyes called 'crow-feet' one reason could be looking directly in sunlight. As you try to close eyes due to bright light wrinkling occurs around the eyes. With time they form permanent lines. This can be easily avoided by wearing dark glasses in the sun.

Post Menopausal - Menopause is a time of hormonal changes of the body.wrinkling is just one aspect of it. medically prescribed hormone replacement therapy is also not prescribed beyond 5 years after menopause.Soyabean is a natural source of female hormone estrogen which can be included in diet if you are post menopause. Many skin creams are also being manufactured that include Soya as its ingredient.

Wrong method of applying cream there is a video on this blog about home facial techniques. It you use it even for applying cream daily on your face it will be very beneficial.Do not use random strokes while applying cream. It will only promote new lines on your face.

Dehydration-I keep mentioning this point repeatedly because this is the most preventable aspect of wrinkilng phenomenon.

ALLERGIC REACTIONS
skin can be allergic to anything and everything.Medicine being a common cause.Others can be metal jewellery, hair dyes, bleaches , cosmetics (including nail polish!) ,creams etc
Here are some tips to avoid allergic reaction on your skin.
1.If you have a history of allergies (allergic rhinitis, asthma, allergic dermatitis) then be careful while trying a new cosmetic.
2.Always tell your doctor about your allergies while taking a new prescription. Many reactions can be really dangerous!
3.Many products like bleaches advice you to do a patch test on small area of skin before using.Never skip this step.
4.Never apply a product on a sensitive area of skin like lips, undereyes, forearm, thighs unless it mentions that it is safe to use it there.

SKIN CANCERS
if you notice a change in
color
size
shape
suface
bleeding
of any mole on your body do not ignore it.It could be a melanma(a type of skin cancer).

VITAMIN DEFICIENCIES
Skin vitamins are Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C and Vitamin B.Out of there only vitamin B and C should be taken without prescription.Vitamin E is being included in many skin creams and is safe to use it that way.Vitamin A should be taken only on a doctor's prescription.
Problems like drying scaly skin, cracking of mouth angles are taken care of by Vitamin B.
Vitamin C is particularly useful if you have a healing scar/scars such as acne scars. But once the scars have already healed it will not help.Vitamin A & E take care of skin maintainance.

Dont squeeze your Pimple!

As most of my readers keep asking me "whats the harm in popping a pimple?", I thought of putting up a whole article on it here.Let me begin by asking you why you squeeze your pimple.most common reason is that it disappears fast if you squeeze it....right?

Now let me tell you what happens when you squeeze a pimple.
Pimple(acne) is a skin infection caused by propionibacterium acnes predisposed by oiliness of face and increased androgen secretion in the body.Because it is a bacterial infection squeezing it causes thousands of bacteria to spill over your skin and pass into the blood circulation promoting pimples over other areas of your face.So this simply means if you have one pimple and you squeeze it then you are likely to get some more.

Moreover a pimple has associated inflammation with it.Squeezing a pimple promotes inflammation and also causes darkening of the skin around the pimple as you step out in the sun. This is called hyperpigmentation. It may take a while for this pigmentation to go.

The blackhead or the white head that you squeeze leaves the area injured that heals with a scar often making the pore bigger with poor elasticity making them look larger. It is one of the reason of having large pores on skin.

Now next time you see an ugly pimple on your face be patient to get consultation from a dermatologist and don't squeeze it right away.
