Judging from this weekend’s box office receipts, it seems like Isla Fisher’s coming out party as the new Renee Zellweger/ Sandra Bullock/ Katherine Heigl/ Reese Witherspoon did not go as well as her movie studio had hoped. Her film, “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” came in a dismal fourth, banking only $15,406,000. It’s not that audiences only had death on their minds (yes “Friday the 13th” came in first but the other big rom-com, “He’s Just Not That Into You,” came in second).
So, what gives? Was America just not feeling like paying money to watch someone spend money? Or are they just not into red heads?
Isla Fisher, if you’re reading this, take care — after all, not everyone can be another Paul Blart, mall cop.
ISLA FISHER - FISHER WAS A RED CARPET FLASHER
Actress Isla Fisher is terrified of awards ceremonies, after flashing her backside the very first time she stepped out on the red carpet.
The Wedding Crashers star was thrilled to land an invitation to the 2007 Golden Globe Awards and turned up at the Hollywood bash wearing a brand new sheer-cut frock. But the Aussie star's night quickly went downhill.
Isla Fisher explains, "I was so pleased with myself as I walked down the red carpet, and all cocky as I posed over my shoulder.
"As I got to the end, I realised the dress was torn up the back and my right cheek was totally exposed.
"They reported it as Isla Flasher. My friends started calling me that too."
It can be frustrating when favorite beauty products vanish from store shelves or when your hair is looking alarmingly sparse. So Good Housekeeping 's beauty editors have come up with solutions to beauty bafflers such as these:
1. Can anything help my thinning hair?
Most hair loss in women is treatable (once you've ruled out underlying health issues with your doctor). The first line of attack is often Women's Rogaine ($25 for a one-month supply, drugstores), which is FDA-approved for regrowing hair. The only catch is that Rogaine is not a cure; you have to keep using it.
The FDA is reviewing study data on a much pricier option for women, HairMax LaserComb ($545, hairmax.com), which stimulates the follicle with light energy. It already has FDA clearance for increasing hair growth in men.
2. If I get a bad haircut, am I entitled to a free redo?
Channel your cool, collected side. "People understandably feel upset when a stylist or colorist doesn't get it right, but causing a scene won't help," said Helena Faccenda, a celebrity hairstylist based in New York City.
Do speak up -- calmly -- right away; the longer you delay, the less weight your complaint will carry. And if you don't trust the person who caused the fiasco to fix it, ask the salon manager if someone else can help you.
3. Where can I find discontinued makeup?
First, try the brand's Web site. There often is a link to products that are being phased out, such as Lancome's Beauty Bye-Byes (lancome.com). Estee Lauder's Gone But Not Forgotten hot line (800-216-7173) offers discontinued products from many of its brands, including Clinique.
When all else fails, create a clone of the shade. Giella will copy a lipstick, lip gloss or nail polish hue ($25 to $27, giella.com). And Three Custom Colors Specialists can re-create any lip color ($55 for two tubes of lipstick, threecustom.com).
4. What's the best way to choose makeup at a drugstore?
If your local outlet hasn't implemented sampling, the way Target and Ulta have, "the smartest thing to do is to choose colors in the tones you already know work for you," said Los Angeles makeup artist Napoleon Perdis.
You may get a second chance to get it right. CoverGirl will let you swap its new Simply Ageless Foundation ($14, drugstores) for a closer match at any store where it's sold.
Many drugstores, including CVS, will take back or at least exchange makeup -- even if it's been opened.
5. What can I do to look less tired?
Liquid skin brighteners -- such as Almay Face Brightener ($12.50, drugstores) -- come in skin-tone-matching shades that create a subtle, not sparkly, luminosity.
To apply, layer a thin coat all over your face before foundation, or dab it just beneath the brow or on top of the cheekbones. Hide dark undereye circles with an eye brightener such as Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Eye Illuminator ($28, qvc.com).

Ksenia Sukhinova Biography
Ksenia Sukhinova, Russian spelling, Ксения Сухинова, was born in 1987 making her age 21. She was born in Nizhnevartovsk, Russia. This beauty first came into the spotlight after representing Tyumen in the 2007 Miss Russia pageant. She outshined 50 other contestants, and took home the title. Due to her college obligations, studying for an engineering degree, she was unable to compete in the 2008 Miss Universe competition, so runner up Vera Krasova replaced her.
On December 13, Ksenia was crowned the new Miss World at the finals held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Sukhinova also won the contest’s top model award and was third in the swimsuit competition. Ksenia is absolutely stunning with measurements being 5”10’, with blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. Her name is also often misspelled Ksenya or Kseniya.
Russian crowned Miss World 2008
Russia's Kseniya Sukhinova won the Miss World 2008 crown on Saturday in a glittering African-themed pageant where she outshone 108 other international beauties and pledged to "help people."
"And Miss World 2008 is Russia," announced Julia Morley, head of the Miss World committee that organises the event.
The second runner up was Gabrielle Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago and the first runner up Parvathay Omanakuttan of India.
The 21-year-old blue-eyed blonde beauty, who declared shortly before her win was announced that being nervous made her "feel stronger," takes over from Zhang Zi Lin of China to become the 58th Miss World.
"I think I can help people and I want to help people and today if I walk away with this crown I will do that," Sukhinova told judges through a translator after being asked why she should be crowned the winner.
The World's Most Beatiful Women Gather
This year women from around the globe will be competing in the age old traditional contest of Miss World 2008. It's a pretty high ranking position as this is the oldest surviving major international beauty pageant created and many countries are anxiously waiting to see if their daughter will take home the title.
Finals for the Miss World 2008 pageant will be airing live from South Africa on CNMG television from 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 13. The finals are being held at the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The world's most beautiful women are being gathering in Africa, China's Zhang Zilin was the last woman to win Miss World, it should be interesting to see which of these exotic beauties will be crowned.
She's donned barely-there swimwear for Sports Illustrated. Lent her milky skin and Paul-Newman-blue eyes to the covers of three beauty books, two by makeup master Kevyn Aucoin and one by Bobbi Brown. And boasts sufficient fashion range to have appeared on magazine covers from cutting-edge (Harper's Bazaar, French and Italian Vogue) to girl-next-door (Lucky).
And that's not even counting the countless designer runways she's walked or ad campaigns she's scored, including Valentino, Missoni, Sonia Rykiel, Vivienne Westwood and Versace.
Yet thirtysomething Chandra North isn't really that different from the unassuming punk-music-loving teenager we met in the early 1980s, when TheDallas Morning News' Fashion!Dallas booked the Highland Park High School student for her very first photo shoot.
The supermodel, who hit her stride in the early '90s during the reign of the Naomi-Christy-Linda troika, recently moved from her longtime home in upstate New York back to Dallas with her husband, Daniel Blaylock, and 8-year-old son, Hayden, to live near family and escape brutal winters. We caught up with her at Starbucks in Highland Park Village, not far from where she now lives, to discuss beauty, fitness, fashion and her life as a supermodel.
What's your current makeup routine?
I'm terrible with foundation, so I use a tinted moisturizer instead. I hate powder. If I'm good, I do a little eye makeup.
I'm trying to grow my brows back. They used to pluck them a lot for shoots, especially during the grunge era. I wish they were as thick as they used to be. I just tweeze the strays now.
How do you take care of your skin?
I love a good facial. The last place I went was Kate Somerville in LA, but I need to find a place here. Billy B, this well-known makeup artist, told me about a celebrity client of his who has great skin and is in her late '40s and goes to Kate for facials. So I checked out her products. I love the ExfoliKate treatment.
Are you a product junkie?
I have a drawer full of products, and I just rotate things so I don't get bored.
What's your fitness routine?
I work out with a trainer a couple times a week; it's sort of a kick-boxing routine. I also walk my dogs a lot. I love Pilates. I was a dancer when I was younger, so I relate to Pilates.
Do you diet?
I try to be good, though I'll have a piece of birthday cake. Dark chocolate is my weakness. I love coffee and tea; I try to drink more green tea. I try not to eat at night and eat less sugar, preservative-free things. I like a steak now and then. Fish. Barbecue. I love Joe T. Garcia's.
How do you feel about plastic surgery?
I say whatever makes you feel good. Do a little self-inventory. I think there are people who have had amazing work done. Anything too extreme, anything that makes you not look like yourself is too much. Subtlety is important. I think it's good to go the noninvasive route first.
How often do you work now, and what agencies manage your bookings?
I'm somewhat selective. It varies every month, but I try not to be gone more than a few times a month. It's nice that I can almost be a full-time mom. I'm with One Management in New York, Marilyn Agency in Paris, Storm Model Management in London and the Kim Dawson Agency here.
